LIBRERIA CALDERS

Una librería especial, librería especializada en libros, así es como se definen, escondida en un rincón del barrio de Sant Antoni, con unos espacios acogedores donde se organizan conferencias, lecturas y presentaciones.

Han colocado un falso techo de perfiles de madera y una lámina translúcida para crear un efecto de iluminación difusa. Algunas paredes son originales de piedra, algunas pintadas y otras revestidas de madera. Y a parte del espacio de librería, tienen zonas de co-working y para charlar un rato. Me gusta.

A special bookshop, a bookshop specialized in books, this is how they define themselves, hidden in a corner in Sant Antoni neighborhood, with cozy spaces where they organize conferences, lectures and presentations.

There is a false ceiling that diffuses the light. Some walls are made of stone, some ones are painted and another one is covered by wood. Apart from the bookshop space, there is a co-working area and a space to chat. I like it.

LOS TOLDOS DE PALMA

Cuando alguien tiene una buena idea, ésta se expande por sí sola. Eso es lo que ha pasado en Palma de Mallorca, en lugar de poner toldos o persianas, alguien tuvo la idea de poner unas cortinas blancas a la salida de su balcón para protegerse del Sol. No sé quién fue el primero en ponerlo, pero ahora podemos ver estos curiosos "toldos" por todo el centro de Palma. El resultado es bonito, ¿no?

When someone has a good idea, this is expanded by itself. This is what has happened in Palma de Mallorca (Balear islands), instead of having sunshades or shutters, someone had the idea of putting white curtains outside to be protected of the summer Sun. I don't know who was the first one, but now we can see this curious sunshades by all the center of Palma. The final result is nice, isn't it?

DE MANO EN MANO

El patio del centro de cultura contemporánea es uno de mis lugares preferidos de Barcelona, pero aún me gusta más los días en los que se celebra el mercadillo de artículos vintage De mano en mano, donde podemos encontrar ropa, accesorios y objetos vintage, nuevos o de segunda mano, así como talleres y música.

The CCCB's courtyard is one of my favorites places in Barcelona, but I like it most when it takes place the vintage market De mano en mano, where we can find vintage clothes, accessories and vintage objects, new or secondhand, workshops and music.

Me gustaron especialmente los vestidos de Velvet Bcn  (que abrirá una tienda próximamente en la calle Rabassa número 37 de Barcelona) y las coronas de flores de Colada Barcelona. Aunque se pueden encontrar cosas bonitas y curiosas en la mayoría de puestos.

I specially liked the Velvet Bcn dresses (opening soon a new shop in Rabassa 37th in Barcelona) and the flower hairbands by Colada Barcelona. Although we can find lovely things in most of the stands.

El centro de cultura contemporánea de Barcelona (CCCB) nace a partir de la rehabilitación de parte del edificio de la casa de la Caridad, el proyecto de rehabilitación fue obra del arquitecto Albert Viaplana. Se caracteriza por su fachada de cristal que refleja parte de la ciudad y desde donde se puede ver hasta el mar y por la buena solución que se encontró para su acceso, a través del sótano del mismo patio.

CCCB was born through the restoration of part of the House of charity, the project of restoration was projected by the architect Albert Viaplana. It is characterize by its glass facade that reflects part of the city and where we can see even the sea. Another interesting part of the building is the solution found for its access, through the basement floor of the courtyard.

CURRO CLARET

El Barcelona Design Festival, del 2 de junio al 10 de julio, tiene por objetivo impulsar a Barcelona como capital del diseño a nivel internacional mediante exposiciones, eventos y una gran variedad de actividades.

"More than this" es una de las exposiciones del festival, donde el diseñador Curro Claret nos muestra cómo mediante las mismas piezas básicas y material reciclado se pueden crear diferentes sillas. Lo hace con la ayuda de, entre otros, los amigos de "Fundació Arrels", una fundación que ayuda a gente que vive en la calle.

Nos presenta su trabajo en un entorno muy bonito, la tienda Vinçon en el número 96 del Paseo de  Gracia.

Barcelona Design Festival, from june 2nd to july 10th, has the objective to drive Barcelona as a capital of design in an international level by exhibitions, events and a wide range of activities.

"More than this" is one of the exhibitions of the festival, where the designer Curro Claret show us how by two basic pieces and recycled material, we can create different chairs. He makes it with the help of friends of "Fundació Arrels", a foundation that helps beggars and homeless.

He presents us his work in a beautiful environment, the shop Vinçon in 96th Paseo de Gracia.

CAFÉ CAMELIA

La calle Verdi de Barcelona, una calle en un mismo barrio y con el mismo nombre por todo su recorrido, pero con una pequeña aclaración según el tramo, siendo "Verdi de baix" el que se encuentra más abajo, "Verdi del Mig" el que se encuentra en medio y "Verdi de dalt" el que está más arriba.

En Verdi de Dalt está Café Camelia, es un lugar agradable, alegre y cómodo si vas con niños, ya que tiene su pequeño rincón para que dibujen o jueguen, y pasteles caseros y platos vegetarianos para los adultos.

Me gustan las flores que hay en la entrada, los colores del local, las sillas de toda la vida y el collage de dibujos y fotos en la pared, es un lugar encantador.

Verdi street in Barcelona, is a street with some variations in its name depending on the situation, "Verdi de baix" is the stretch located at the beginning, "Verdi del mig" is the stretch in the middle and "Verdi de dalt" is the highest stretch.

In Verdi de Dalt we can find Cafè Camèlia, it's a nice place, cheerful and comfortable if you want to go with children, because there is a place special for them to draw and play, we can also find home made cakes and vegetarian food for adults.

I like the flowers at the entrance, the colors of the establishment, the lifetime chairs and the collage on the wall, it's a lovely place.

CULTURA A CASA

Se trata de una iniciativa que me ha llamado la atención, la descubrí en el número de abril de la revista "Ling", en un vuelo de Vueling. 

"Cultura a casa" es una asociación cultural mallorquina que presenta una alternativa a los eventos culturales convencionales, presentándolos en un espacio distinto al que estamos acostumbrados, ni en museos, ni en teatros, ni en salas de exposición, los eventos tienen lugar en casa de alguien. 

Las figuras que hacen posible esta iniciativa son el anfitrión y el invitado. El anfitrión se pone en contacto con "Cultura a casa" para ofrecer su casa y el invitado se pone en contacto con "Cultura a casa" para reservar plaza en el evento que le interese de los que hay publicados en la web. Por otro lado están los músicos y artistas que presentan sus propuestas a través de la web. 

"Cultura a casa" se encarga de la organización y de hacer que el encuentro entre toda esta gente que no se conoce sea posible. Ofreciéndoles una experiencia única, tanto a los invitados y a los artistas, al estar tan cerca los unos de los otros y en un espacio tan personal.

"Cultura a casa" is an initiative that took my attention, it takes place in Mallorca island, Spain. I discovered the initiative in Vueling airlines' magazine.

It is a cultural association from Mallorca that show us an alternative to the conventional events because they took place in a different place that we are used to. Not in a museum,  neither in a theatre or an exhibition hall, the events take place in someone's house.

The figures that make this initiative possible are the host and the guest. The hosts contact "Cultura a casa" to offer their house and the guests contact "Cultura a casa" to make a reservation to the event they are interested in. On the other hand, the musicians and artists present their suggestions by the web.

"Cultura a casa" are in charge of organize the events and make the meeting between all of this people to be possible. They offer them a unique experience, for the guests and for the artists, making them to be close from each other in such a personal space.

LE PETIT CHÂTELET

Me resultó difícil encontrar un bar con algo que lo hiciera especial a mis ojos alrededor de la estación Châtelet de París. El que encontré lleva el mismo nombre que la estación, es una estación de tren y metro tan grande que incluso tiene un centro comercial en ella. El local no lo es tanto, de ahí su nombre "Le petit Châtelet".

Me gustó el mapa de África y las fotos en blanco y negro, le daban un aire cálido y acogedor al local, como si estuvieras en casa.

It was difficult for me to find a bar with something that made it special for me around the Châtelet Station in Paris. The one I found share the name with the station, it's a train and metro station, so big that it even has a shopping center inside. The establishment is not as big as the station, so its name is "Le petit Châtelet", small Châtelet.

I liked the map of Africa they had on the wall, and the black and white photografs. They made the establishment seem warmer, as if you were at home.

Y para acabar de sentirte en casa, bajando unas escaleras de caracol, el piso de abajo parece un lugar para resguardarse del frío en invierno. Al parecer, no sólo se resguardan del frío, también comparten libros los segundos martes de cada mes mediante www.bookcrossing.com. Este tipo de iniciativas es lo que convierte a las ciudades en lugares más humanos, en el exterior tenemos los centros comerciales, en el interior y bajo el suelo la tranquilidad para compartir libros, ideas, opiniones...

To make you feel even more at home, going down by the stairs you can find a basement that seems a place to protecting from the cold in winter. It seems that people not only protect from the cold there, but also they share some books the second tuesday of the month, by www.bookcrossing.com. This kind of initiatives is what makes cities in humane places, we have shopping centers outside, we have a place inside under the floor to share books, ideas, opinions...
