MARGAUX MOTIN

Margaux Motin es divertida porque dibuja la vida tal y como es, en diferentes situaciones en las que todos nos podemos sentir identificados. A mi me hizo mucha gracia esta del libro J'aurais adore etre ethnologe, alguna se siente identificada?

Margaux Motin is funny because she draws real life, in different situations that all of us can identify in our lives. I fancied a lot this illustration from the book "J'aurais adore etre ethnologe", any of you feel the same?

Es una ilustradora francesa y la mayoría de su trabajo esta en francés, pero algunos de sus libros se han publicado en otros idiomas, así que todos podemos reinos un rato con ella. ¡Gracias Margaux por explicarnos la vida de esta forma tan sincera!

She is a french illustrator and most of her work is in french, but some of her books have been published in other languages, so all of us can laugh with her. Thanks Margaux for showing us the life from your point of view!

L'Estel de Gràcia es una grata sorpresa que se encuentra en la calle Francisco Giner 23 de Barcelona, tiene una carta con una buena relación calidad/precio y con unos postres exquisitos.

l'Estel de Gracia is a nice surprise that we can find at 23th Francisco Giner in Barcelona, they have a menu with a good balance of quality and price and with exquisites deserts.

Es un lugar acogedor, cómodo, bonito y con una decoración muy especial. Está en una planta baja del barrio de Gracia, con esos techos tan altos y abovedados podemos ver en varios locales de Barcelona. Me pareció especialmente original este globo hecho con lo que parecen ruedas de bicicleta. Un lugar 100% recomendable.

This is a cozy, confortable, nice place and with a very special decoration. This is located in a flat floor of the Gracia neighborhood, with those high and arched roofs that we can find in few locals in Barcelona. I found specially original, a hot air balloon made with bike wheels. A place 100% appealing!

CLARÉS

El bar Clarés es un buen sitio para desayunar dulce o salado, tienen bocadillos, pastas, pasteles... sinceramente, no sabía muy bien hacia qué decantarme así que desayuné dulce y salado, y estaba delicioso. No sólo se puede desayunar, también se puede ir a comer, merendar y cenar.

Clarés is a good place to have breakfast, both sweet or salt, they have sandwiches and cakes... sincerely, I was not sure about what to take, so I took both, and it was delicious! Not only you can go for breakfast but also to have lunch, have a snack and dinner.

Es agradable estar dentro o fuera, porque tanto desde dentro como desde fuera, tienes unas bonitas vistas a la "Casa de les Punxes" de Barcelona. Además, el sitio es bonito, agradable y con una buena música de ambiente.

Being inside or outside is nice, because from inside and outside you have good views of "La Casa de les Punxes" in Barcelona. In addition, the place is beautiful, it's nice being there and it has good background music.

SWAB BARCELONA

Hoy acaba la edición del 2014 de la feria internacional de arte contemporáneo Swab Barcelona. Ha contado con la participación de galerías y artistas nacionales e internacionales, galerías europeas, asiáticas y americanas.

Today finishes the 2014 Swab international art fair of Barcelona. It has counted with the participation of national and international galleries and artists, with european, asiatic and american galleries.

 

 

Fiel a sus orígenes,  Swab da la oportunidad a galerías jóvenes que nunca hayan participado en ninguna  feria de arte, apostando por ellos y dándoles soporte. Los puntos clave de Swab, según ellos mismos, son: romper con la imagen elitista del mundo del arte, descubrir, invitar y aplicar, dar soporte a galerías jóvenes, crear oportunidades a galerías, artistas y comisarios y crear un nuevo coleccionismo.

Swab gives the opportunity to young galleries that have never participated in any art fair, giving them support. The key points of Swab, as they say, are: breaking with the elitist image of the world of art, discovering, inviting and applying, giving support to young galleries, creating opportunities to galleries, artists and commissaries and creating a new collectionism.

Me ha parecido especialmente interesante la obra de Andrés Senra, Serie Kommune. A través de sus acuarelas nos transporta a Christiania, una comunidad situada en la ciudad de Copenhague. Cada acuarela va acompañada de una frase de un miembro de la comunidad, una de ellas dice lo siguiente: "A veces lamento haber crecido aquí, porque esto me da una perspectiva muy limitada de la sociedad. Sólo la he visto desde este punto de vista". Creo que cada uno de nosotros podría decir esto de sí mismo, independientemente de dónde hayamos crecido, en su momento vimos el mundo desde un punto de vista. Es bueno ser capaces de verlo desde otro.

I have found specially interesting the work of Andrés Senra, Serie Kommune. Through his aquarelles, he takes us to Christiania, a community located in the city of Copenhague. Each aquarelle have a sentence of a member of the community, one of them says this: "Sometimes I feel sorry for growing up here, because this gives me a limited perspective of the society. I have only seen it from this point of view". I thing that everyone of us could say the same of ourselves, independently where we have grown up, in one moment we used to saw the world from one point of view. It's good to be capable of seeing it from another one.

L'AMBIGÚ

Todos los sitios especiales tienen algo que hace que me den ganas de entrar, imagino que es por eso que me apeteció entrar en L'Ambigú. Aunque en ese momento no sabía qué era lo que lo hacía especial, al leer su historia me di cuenta de que tenía un pasado y una razón de ser.

Every special place has something that makes me feel to get into it, I imagine this is why I fancied getting into L'Ambigú. Although in that moment i didn't know what was the special thing on it, I read its story and I realized that the place had a past and a reason to be.

Antes de ser un bar, era una tienda de artesanía étnica de importación, que más tarde incorporó piezas de plata y ropa. Más tarde, aprovecharon el espacio que tenía en su interior para crear unas salas en las que organizaban talleres de yoga, danza y otras actividades culturales.

Finalmente, en el mes de julio del 2014, crearon el Passatge Tainos, dentro del cual está el bar L'Ambigú, donde hacen gastronomía creativa. Eso sí, sin dejar de lado la tienda de ropa y la zona de actividades. Qué bonita evolución.

Before being a bar, it was a shop of ethnic imported craftwork, that later incorporated silver jewelry and clothes. After that, in order to take profit of the space the had inside, they created some rooms where they organized yoga and dance classes and other cultural activities.

Finally, on july of 2014, it turned into the space Passatge Tainos, inside it, we can find the bar L'Ambigú, where we can eat creative gastronomy. The clothes shop and the area for activities still carry on. What a nice evolution!

ELS SORTIDORS DEL PARLAMENT

La calle Parlament es una de mis preferidas de Barcelona para ir a tomar algo, está llena de bares y restaurantes con una decoración muy original. Uno de ellos es Els sortidors del Parlament, donde podemos encontrar una gran variedad de vinos, de ahí su nombre "Els Sortidors". Surtidor es aquello que surte o provee, o un chorro de agua que brota y el vino casi brota de las paredes de Els Sortidors.

Parlament street is one of my favorites streets to find a place to have something to drink, it's full of bars and restaurants well decorated. One of them is Els sortidors del Parlament, where we can find a wide variety of national and international wines. Els sortidors come from the verb surtir, that means "those that means stock and provide, or a stream of water, and it seems that wine stream from the walls. 

Incluso su carta de vinos está escrita sobre una botella que parece de vino. Dentro de la carta-botella hay una espiga, un detalle que no falla, poner ramas o flores secas dentro de botellas de cristal siempre queda bien.

Even the wine menu is written over a bottle of wine. Inside the bottle-menu there is an ear, a detail that is never unsuccessful, putting dry flowers or limbs inside a glass bottle always look good.

Podemos tomar nuestra copa de vino sentados en la barra, en sillas o taburetes, o podemos tomárnosla sobre un bidón de vino.

When can have our glass of wine sited in different chairs or stools, or we can take it over a drum.

 Incluso la entrada al lavabo es original, queda claro que es el de mujeres, ¿no?

Even the entrance to the toilets is original, they make clear that this is the ladies one, isn't it?

LA CALLE BLAI

Cuando Barcelona era propiamente una ciudad portuaria, la Avinguda del Paral·lel era la calle a través de la cual se transportaban las mercancías que salían del puerto. Eso provocó que, a lo largo de su recorrido, surgieran locales de ocio y espectáculo ya que entre su público se encontraban los marineros, llegando a su esplendor en la década de los 30 del siglo XX.

Aunque ya no es lo que fue, todavía quedan salas como el teatro Victoria, el Arteria, la sala Apolo o el Molino, que fue reformado en el 2010. Una reforma hace cambiar mucho a un lugar y eso se ve claramente en la calle Blai, que nace en El Paral·lel, que al hacerla peatonal se llenó de terrazas y bares de tapas.

  

When Barcelona was a port city, Avinguda del Paral·lel was the street by the merchandises were transported from the harbor to the storehouses. This fact caused the creation of an area of leisure and shows, where one of its guests were the sailors. Paral·lel got its apogee in the 30th decade of the last century.

Although nowadays Paral·lel is not what it was in the past, there are still some places like Victoria and Arteria theatre, Apolo hall and El Molino, that was refurnished in 2010. A refurbishment can change a place a lot, this is what happened to Blai street, that starts in Paral·lel, after its refurbishment it changed a lot and now is full of bars and terraces to eat tapas.

SOFIA UGARTE

Al igual que otros arquitectos, Sofía decidió dedicarse al arte y no a la construcción. Aunque parece salida de una de las mejores escuelas de bellas artes, la mayor parte de lo que sabe lo aprendió de forma autodidacta. Tenemos la suerte de que viva en Barcelona, así podemos tener su trabajo más cerca.

Like other architects, Sofia decided to work in art and not in construction. Although it seems she have studied in one of the bests schools of art, most of what she knows she has learnt autodidactic. We are lucky she lives in Barcelona, so we can have her work closer.

Si tuviera que definir su trabajo diría que es delicado, parece que mime cada una de sus ilustraciones y pinturas, abarca diferentes estilos y todo le sale bien. Ésta es la selección de mis preferidos, pero podéis hacer la vuestra a través de art-sofiaugarte.com

HELLO AUGUST

Everything seems to be in a parenthesis in August in Spain, everything but the sea. The sea is fuller of life than any month of the year, specially the coast, at any time. It's time to stop the time and stop looking to the watch. In fact, the watch doesn't mind because doesn't mind what time it is. 

 

It's time to rest and think about the new course that starts in September. Will we start something new in September? We can start doing something new or we can continue with our lives after this parenthesis. We can restart with our lives full of energy after this month of relax.
